Field Service Technician

Education and Experience:

  • 2-year technical degree or high school diploma and several years of comparable maintenance experience
  • 5+ years of experience working on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems or heavy equipment, commercial motor vehicle and support equipment, some field experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid Driver’s License w/clean driving record
  • Class A CDL or B willingness to obtain one within a defined period of time

Objective: The primary function of the position will be to travel to various job sites to perform a variety of services, including inspection, preventative maintenance, diagnostic and repair work, on a wide range of heavy equipment, commercial motor vehicles and along with support equipment.

In-Shop service with multiple locations the same functions as described above as field work levels change.

This individual must be flexible and open to possible overtime & outside conditions. This individual must also be able to make timely equipment repairs, provide ongoing maintenance, and monitor equipment.

Job Environment: This position will require time being spent in the shop and field during the construction season. The Heavy Equipment Technician will interact on a day-to-day basis with Technician Supervisors, Shop Manager, Dispatch, Construction Foremen, Crane Division and Yard Personnel. The Heavy Equipment Technician position is a full-time, year-round position.

Relationships/Management: The position will interact with all levels of personnel within the company including union and non-union employees, other department managers, support personnel and be able to develop effective rapport with the vendor community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule all work with Technician Supervisor to make the most efficient use of travel time and minimize multiple trips to one location
  • Must have the ability to work independently & with fellow LCI coworkers/employees
  • Operate and inspect all construction equipment, support equipment and components to determine needed repairs
  • Discuss equipment problems with the supervisor and/or others as needed
  • Repair, replace, calibrate, adjust and/or rebuild components
  • Test repaired equipment for proper operation
  • Inspect, add and/or change fluids and lubricants; check and replace worn parts and perform other routine service and maintenance
  • All required welding and fabrication work
  • Read equipment manuals, service bulletins and other resources; attend training sessions
  • Maintain and update knowledge of equipment to be serviced
  • Assist with ordering parts, materials and supplies needed for repair and maintenance
  • Record work performed, time, and materials used for each job; complete timecards and maintain related work logs and records
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, motor vehicles and heavy equipment and perform related duties as assigned by the Equipment Manager
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment

  • Understand and adhere to all safety regulations and personal protective equipment requirements
  • Has ability in using a high degree of independent judgement
