Job Specifications
Education: High School Diploma, or equivalent required. 2-year vocational training program in Diesel Technology preferred.
Experience: 2-year technical degree in Diesel Technology or a combination of training and experience that provides equivalent skills, knowledge and abilities.
Valid commercial driver’s license is preferred, or the ability and willingness to obtain.
Objective: The primary function of the position will be to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment at various job sites or at the maintenance shop. This individual must be flexible and open to possible overtime & outside weather conditions throughout the construction season. This individual must also be able to make timely equipment repairs, provide ongoing maintenance, and monitor equipment.
Nature and Scope
Company Environment: Landwehr Construction, Inc. is a fifth-generation company with its original start in 1895. Landwehr Construction, Inc. is a diverse construction company focusing in areas including, but not limited to, crane & rigging, demolition, environmental remediation, highway heavy, machinery moving, renewable energy, sitework & utilities, and wetlands specialty. Landwehr Construction, Inc. employs both union and non-union staff and works primarily in the Midwest Region.
Job Environment: This position will require time being spent in the shop and field during the construction season. The Heavy Equipment Technician will interact on a day-to-day basis with Technician Supervisors, Shop Manager, Dispatch, Construction Foremen, Crane Division and Yard Personnel. The Heavy Equipment Technician position is a full-time, year-round position.
Relationships/Management: The position will interact with all levels of personnel within the company including union and non-union employees, other department managers, support personnel and be able to develop effective rapport with the vendor community.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and inspect all construction equipment to determine needed repairs.
- Discuss equipment problems with supervisor and/or others as needed.
- Repair, replace, calibrate, adjust and/or rebuild components.
- Test repaired equipment for proper operation.
- Inspect, add and/or change fluids and lubricants for all types of equipment
- Check and replace worn parts and perform other routine service and maintenance.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Perform necessary welding and fabrication.
- Remain current with knowledge of equipment to be serviced.
- Assist with ordering parts, materials and supplies needed for repair and maintenance.
- Use of electronic maintenance system to create work orders, track labor hours and materials.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Equipment Manager.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness while working at job sites and at the shop.
- Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
- Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications and Requirements of the Position
- Must be a team player and promote a collaborative work environment.
- MNDOT Inspector Certification preferred.
