Education: High school diploma required. Associate’s degree in accounting preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in payroll, preferably in construction or a union environment.
Objective: This role is responsible for supporting payroll operations, ensuring compliance with certified payroll requirements, and assisting with weekly union payroll processing.

Landwehr Construction, Inc. is a diverse construction company focusing on areas including, but not limited to, crane & rigging, demolition, environmental remediation, highway heavy, machinery moving, renewable energy, sitework & utilities, and wetlands specialty. Landwehr Construction, Inc. employs both union and non-union staff and works primarily in the Midwest Region.
Job Environment: This position will be located at the corporate office and is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, start and end times may vary. This position will require prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer and is in a controlled environment.
Relationships/Management: The position will interact with all levels of personnel within the company including union and non-union employees, administration, other department managers and support personnel, and will interact with external sources such as subcontractors, vendors, and governmental entities.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Certified Payroll & Compliance
- Prepare and submit weekly certified payroll reports in compliance with prevailing wage laws.
- Generate and review monthly compliance reports to ensure adherence to state and federal regulations.
- Monitor and verify subcontractor payroll submissions for accuracy and compliance. Follow up with subcontractors as necessary.
Payroll & Employee Data Management
- Assist Payroll Specialists with weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Enter new hires into payroll and HR systems, verifying employee information.
- Conduct employment verifications and respond to payroll-related inquiries.
- Support union and non-union payroll processes, ensuring correct reporting of wages, benefits, and deductions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of union agreements and prevailing wage laws.
General Support
- Assist with audits by gathering payroll data and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
- Assist with filing for payroll and HR.
- Back up answering phones.
- All other duties as assigned
Character attributes/behavioral expectations/prior experiences:
- Familiarity with certified payroll reporting and compliance requirements.
- Experience with payroll and HR systems
- Knowledge of prevailing wage laws and union payroll processes is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks and manage own time efficiently.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Must have good organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
